More about the writer

Alina Yang is a 22 year-old, Hmong-American artist born and raised in the small city of Merced, California. From an early age, her fervid nature always caused her to get in trouble. Her family nicknamed her “me ntxhais ncauj liab” (red mouth girl) because she was very talkative and was never afraid to voice her opinion. She often had ideas of her own that were often shot down. However, because of her passionate young soul, she never stopped pursuing her artistry. She’s always dreamed of finding a voice for her Hmong people through becoming a published artist.

Alina is expressive in many art forms. She enjoys writing lyrics and singing songs, she likes to write personal essays, and she also dabbles in vlogging and tech. In her free time, she enjoys to read books, collect notebooks, collect stationery items, and learn new skills.

Small towns are where big dreams are created.

I am the 5th child out of 6.

There is a six to 10 year age gap between my older siblings and I, and an eight year age gap between the youngest and I. My older siblings are millennials and me and my younger sister are Gen Z!

I was gifted with the honor of being both a younger sister and an older sibling and I love it. My older siblings have given me nieces and nephews that I love as my own children and that’s enough for me.
